This course is designed to capture the interest of Alaskan girls in literature while giving them an opportunity to explore their own sense of identity. The project meets the requirements for receiving a half credit in Individualized Reading through the Anchorage School District through independent study. The students will read five books about young women beginning with a story related to the Native experience and moving to two Alaskan stories, then two international pieces. The project includes exploring the literature through other media, either audio or video and a final project that is a written story reflecting the student’s own experience.
This course is being offered as a "group" class on Wednesday mornings at 9:30, starting November 12, 2008. The invitation to join us is open to any high school girl!
